mom {35/365}

This is my Mom’s sewing box.

When I was a little girl, this sewing box fascinated the hell out of me.  Both sides lift up and out, like accordion styled wings.  I loved to rummage through it and ultimately my goal would always be the buttons.  All kinds of shiny buttons in every size, shape and color you could imagine.  She didn’t sew a whole helluva lot, but when she did, I’d be at her feet exploring the contents of the sewing box.

After her funeral a few short years ago, I had been expected to ‘go through her things and take what you want’  and I wasn’t up to that at all.  It would prove to be a good two years before I was.  I suppose I simply wanted everything to remain the same, with everything in it’s proper place in her home.  I didn’t want to touch a thing.

But I took her sewing box home with me that day.

Today is my Mom’s birthday.

I miss her very much.

    Such a beautiful image. My grandmother has a box exactly like this… I was always fascinated with it as a child too.

    Thinking of you as you miss your mum.
