focus52|2012 {week twenty-one} may 20 to may 26

As I type this, we are in the middle of a Canadian long weekend. Victoria Day is on Monday, or as we affectionately like to call it, the May Two-Four – a fun nod to the date (May 24) but more of a direct play to the national past-time this weekend, involving a case of 24 cold ones. I don’t have a case of 24 cold ones, but I’m quickly approaching that number in the amount of blisters I’ve earned gardening.

But here at focus52, we’re heading into week twenty-one of our project, and I think I have what might be a fun prompt for you guys …

The dictionary defines the word delicious as:

highly pleasing or agreeable to the senses,
especially of taste or smell

I describe it as YUMMY. And I think that gives you quite a wide range of subjects to photograph this week! If you’re anything like me, you’ll spend more time taste-testing your subject than actually photographing it. This could be a dangerous prompt, so take care :)

Of course, food need not be the main subject of your photo. And the word delicious may not even apply to food. You know I always encourage you to think outside of the box and this week is no exception! If you choose, put your own unique spin on ‘delicious’.

If you are going to photograph food, there are tons of how-to articles all over the web that will provide tips and tricks, so I’m not going to bother repeating them. But here are a few of my favorite pieces:

The Food Network – 7 Steps to Sexy Food Photography
Digital Photography School – Food Photography Techniques and Tips
Photojojo – The Ten Tastiest Food Photography Tips
Katrina Kennedy – Food Photography Props and Angles
Photoble – 10 Quick Photography Tips to Make Food Look Tasty

Don’t blame me if you’re hungry after seeing some of the fantastic examples when you visit those links. I’ve already suffered hunger pains writing this article.

You could also choose to do a simple still life, like I’ve shown above. Really, the possibilities are endless this week. Whatever you decide to do, follow the prompt or no, come back here and link up your work when you’re done (weeks run Sunday to Saturday, don’t forget!). Links must be to the direct URL of your actual work, not just to the site it’s posted in, and may be a link to your blog post or to your flickr photo (again, the actual photo, not your entire flickr stream). Also, please don’t link and run – try to find some time to visit at least a few of your fellow 52’ers. That’s half the fun! It’s a fact that those who link up early, get the most interaction on their work. Truth.

Oh! and don’t forget the flickr pool!

Have a delicious week, 52’rs. And please come on over and ‘like’ our new FB page if you haven’t yet.

I’ve so missed seeing your lovely images. I’ve been too busy to visit my inspirational friends or to even pick up my own camera. I miss you, and my camera. We are going into a lovley three-day holiday around here this weekend. I am hopeful I will find my muse and pick up my camera again. Hope you are doing well.
