We had an unexpected visitor this evening …

quack! day 187 (1)

I live in the ‘burbs, so it’s not everyday you see a duck stroll up your front walk.
(not one word about my weedy front walk … shush)

These next few shots have been cracking me up since I opened them …
(blame it on the heat, maybe)

Just out for a stroll. No biggie. Nothing to see here, move along.

quack! day 187 (3)

doo-di-doo-di-dooooo …

quack! day 187 (3)

quack! day 187 (last)

Daughter and I were actually pretty worried about the little guy. I thought he might’ve been hurt or something because he sure wasn’t making any effort to get the hell out of there.

She went back to the house to get some bread so maybe we could lure him down the street to the pond.

uh-huh.

I told her to just pick him up and carry him.  Get some oven mitts, I told her.  It’s all good.

uh-huh.

Oh! and you can bet that I totally walked that duck across the street, arms out to stop traffic and all.

Yep.  I did.

And then all of a sudden, after about an hour, he just decided to up and fly away. It looked a little dicey because he skimmed the pavement for a few hundred yards, but off he went, hanging a right at the end of the street and heading towards the pond.

Daughter and I both looked at each other with dropped jaws.  Crazy duck.

I figure maybe he banged into something and needed time to sort himself out.

Or maybe he got tired in the heat too.

Maybe he got turned around? Does that stuff happen?  heh.

More than likely, he got tired of us stalking his cute duck self.

Or maybe, just maybe, he heard about my mad photo skillz and wanted some shots for the family.

Yeah, that’s it :)

so funny! great shots. We usually get ducks in our yard after a rain because we have a low spot that fills up with water, which they like. But they are always in pairs–girl and boy.

Haha! This is fantastic. I’m usually so bored with duck shots (not sure why, I’m not a duck racist or anything — a duckcist?). But this one is SO fun. I think it’s because it’s juxtaposed with humanity, so it’s full of personality. Quack!

How cool. We were at my sister’s house last easter (also in the suburbs) and an entire family of ducks walked into her backyard. It was an easter miracle.

When it came up on my screen with him strolling down the street like that, I couldn’t stop giggling at him :)
