01 Jul O’Canada, eh? {182/365}
On this day, across our fair land, Canadians young and old are celebrating the birth of our Country on July 1st, 1867.
(in reality, we all have the day off work and can probably be found sitting on a case of beer somewhere near a bonfire)
(outside our igloos)
(with a moose)
(eh???)
We Canadians are a proud bunch. The fact that our “I AM CANADIAN” slogan comes from a case of beer, has nothing to do with nothing.
Just look at what we have going for us …
- Smarties
- Crispy Crunch & Coffee Crisp (you guys just do NOT know how to do chocolate)
- Lacrosse is Canadian
- Hockey is Canadian
- Basketball is Canadian
- Tim Horton’s kicks Starbucks ass
- In the war of 1812, started by America, Canadians pushed the Americans back, past their White House. And then we burnt it down, along with most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon Mackenzie who was drunk for most of it.
- Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany
- Canada has the largest English population that never surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone, anywhere
- Canada made plaid cool long before Seattle caught on
- The Hudson Bay Company once owned over 10% of the earth’s surface and is still around as the world’s oldest company
- We invented the television, the light bulb, ski-doos, jet-skis, velcro, the zipper, insulin, penicillin, zambonis, the telephone, walkie-talkies, shortwave radios and pagers, and peanut butter, to name a few
- oh, and snowblowers, of course
- have a Blackberry? Canadian!
- Canadians consume more mac & cheese than any other nation on earth
- We are the second largest country in the world.
- Our elections only take ONE DAY
- Contrary to popular opinion, Canada does not own the North Pole. The North Pole is not owned by any country. It’s believed, however, that Santa Clause is Canadian.
So yeah … Happy Canada Day!
eh :)

Posted at 10:39h, 02 JulyYou live in an igloo? Bet that helps to keep the beer cold. And you have a pet moose? You people do ROCK. :)
Seriously? While I am ever thankful that I was born an American, I realize we don’t corner the market on all that is good. That’s one of the reasons I think it’s so important to learn about and travel to, if possible to other nations. My trips to Europe, Canada & Mexico were very enlightening. There are a lot of good people & stuff outside our borders, near and far.
Enjoy your holiday!

Posted at 10:49h, 02 JulyYay Maureen! It’s too bad there aren’t a lot more open-minded people in the world, isn’t it? Oh well, they miss out! ;)

Posted at 21:55h, 04 JulyI’ll never forget visiting my aunt, uncle & cousins in Canada & a bear wandered into the garden we were in. My aunt was all calm, telling us he just wanted some veggies – I was about to stroke out at 10-ish years old, LOL.
Moose (meese?) are my favorite animals…GO CANADA! eh
